International Uilleann Piping Day
Times: 11:00 - 11:40 & 11:45 - 12:25
International Uilleann Piping Day, a global celebration of the unique Irish pipes or ‘uilleann pipes’, will take place around the world on Saturday 2nd November 2024.

The uilleann (‘elbow’ in Irish) pipes or ‘Irish pipes’ are a sophisticated form of bagpipe with a history that can be traced back to the eighteenth century. In recognition of its cultural importance, uilleann piping was inscribed on the UNESCO Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity in 2017.

Join us at the SEAC from 11:00am-11.40am and 11.45am-12.25pm with renowned Piper, Eamonn Galldubh, as he delves into the history, demonstrating the sonic intricacies, and performing tunes and airs from the vast repertoire traditionally associated with this uniquely Irish instrument.

Eamonn Galldubh has toured and recorded with artists including Clannad, Riverdance, Moya Brennan, Cara Dillon, Damien Dempsey, Ragus, Niamh ni Charra, Celtic Woman, Hazel O Connor, Rua, Druid Theatre and the RTE Concert Orchestra.

This event will take place in our history-rich thatched cottage parlour, adding a touch of authentic charm to the festivities. Best of all, this event is free to attend, so we hope to see you all there!
